Vegan World: a new fashion for conversation

    June 28, 2022

New fashion: vegan consciousness or temporary hype?

The new fashion is light, free and versatile. But is it really new, or is it just a different look?

First of all, we need to talk about what fashion is. For many – and perhaps for you, too, fashion – is superficial and trivial. In other words, unnecessary. But in reality, fashion has in many modern cultures an important social function.

    New Fashion – New Identity

Fashion is seen as a form of identity. Lilyam Berlin explains that fashion is often used as a form of social acceptance.  Groups can therefore be distinguished by fashion. Through what a person wears, he or she thus belongs to group X or Y in society.

This idea becomes even clearer when we go to public places. Public places usually attract different groups of people at the same time. So all one has to do is take a walk and observe. By the clothes and shoes, you can identify numerous groups that coexist but who do not automatically mix.

And what does the new fashion have to do with this equation? The new fashion questions itself and the existence of fashion tied to the economic system. The new fashion is trying to combine fashion with social and ecological awareness. And this is exactly where the vegan lifestyle enters the picture.

The new identity of the new fashion is unisex, open and free, so that everyone can choose how they want to present themselves to the world. The new fashion is still part of the personality, but it is freer and not bound to trends.

The new fashion acknowledges its processes.

Those who follow the new fashion know that fashion has always been versatile, diverse and complex. The reality is that the process goes from planning, through the creative process, sewing, marketing and disposal. The choice to go vegan in this context (as already explored in the text Why vegan?) is the choice to live a more compassionate lifestyle. That is, choosing a production that cares for everyone involved.

Here we choose the new fashion.

It’s not about sacrificing aesthetics and individuality. The new fashion at BAMOU is in the choice of materials and partners. We are a company that seeks to relate to reality. The manual process, the handmade, is important to us.
